Phuket Post - A Different Kind of Newspaper
A glorious finish

It's that time of the day, you are just starting to get hungry and a little thirsty. You've spent the entire day in the sea and on the beautiful beach, and you need that something extra, for that perfect ending to a gorgeous day on Phuket.

Where do you go? If you're around Kata, Karon or even Nai-harn, it's a choice easily made. Treat yourself to a one of Phuket's most special settings, and the glorious setting sun.

A few weeks ago an astrologer told me I'm going to be rich and famous, and travel the world. I am soon to meet a very special person- "same skin colour as you!" A full-time job as reporter and weekend stint as university student hardly leaves me any time to contemplate the possibilities of romance, but well, she was an astrologer! Best be prepared.

If I do meet him, I know where I'll take him to dinner. I'll take him to the After Beach Bar and Restaurant, set high, on the beach road from Rawai to Kata. He'll have to meet me there at about 6:15 pm. Right in time to select a table with a direct view over the sea, over looking the sands of Kata Noi.

We will order our drinks drinks, and in this romantic setting, with flowers and potted plants surrounding the artfully placed wooden chairs benches. we will sit and smile as we look through the good selection of food on the menu. The setting for this restaurant and the one next door, is Reggae style, so there is some soft reggae music to help us set the mood. The music lends a little more to this place, as does the reggae memorabilia on the walls.

This time, I was here quite by chance, with my fellow Post reporter. She's a cool gal, and we had a lovely time, but I kept a keen eye out for a person "of the same skin colour."

I chose my favourite drink, a watermelon shake that came with with a fancy straw, and an orchid flower. That in a way, says it all.

Jang always goes for something exotic in a fruit drink, so she ordered a Lemon concoction infused with herbs. A Hawaiian Chicken salad was commanded and arrived armoured in a pineapple shell. I've never tasted food cooked and served this way, it was a very special feeling. A side dish of spicy glass noodle with shrimp brought up the rear, and I must say it was very tasty and filling.

Most importantly, it's a very good place to watch that sun set, and perhaps make a wish. I left quite jealous of the owners, imagine having that place for yourself. My wish? Id love to have a small, charming restaurant like this someday. .
