Punchline Comedy
Feb 20
(2008-02-04 23:57:42)
Having spent many years at the Watermark in the Boat Lagoon, the Punchline Comedy boys have decided to move their operations to the more populated area of Patong and ensconce themselves at the Holiday Inn, Patong.

The new venue is much larger, fully air-conditioned, and it will have a dedicated bar with drinks being sold at normal bar prices (beer 100 baht, spirits 140 baht).

Says the Punchline Club:

As well as the new venue, there will be a different format to the show which will result in many more laughs for your baht. The new style show will see three comedians (all booked by the world famous London Comedy Store), one compere, two intervals (important for buying drinks, smoking, and ablutions), and one joke competition. To cram all this in we will be opening the doors at 8pm and starting the show at 8.30pm sharp. For those in the audience that are working, please be reassured that the show will finish at 11pm – you can still get home for your beauty sleep (though the 21st is a public holiday). And, if all this wasn’t enough, it is over 33% cheaper than before at only 960 baht if you buy tickets in advance (1,200 baht at the door).

February’s show sees three very different, top quality comedians; two Brits, Ricky Grover and Stephen Grant, and one Canadian, Glenn Wool.

The Comedians:

Glenn Wool
“Tipped for greatness” The Telegraph

Glenn began his comedy career in his home town of Vancouver in 1995. He moved to London in 1998 and quickly became one of the rising stars of the London comedy circuit.

Glenn also gigs at venues around the country and has recently been touring
with Ed Byrne. In 2002 Glenn performed on the prestigious comedy stage at the Glastonbury Festival, the Kilkenny Comedy Festival and the South African Comedy Festival.

Apparently,

Stephen Grant

“Stephen Grant is still attempting to shake off his unofficial title of Britain’s best comedy compere and odd-job man.” Time Out, 2004.

A cult figure at the triple award winning Chortle best comedy venue ‘Komedia’, where he plays host to over 900 people every weekend in Brighton, his live work as a headliner and compere can be seen in all the top UK venues. In August 1998 he made his Edinburgh debut at the Pleasance theatre, where he was the main subject of the 6 part TV series Edinburgh or Bust. In 2003 he returned with “Route 1”, an immediate critical five star success, which was followed in 2004 by another sold-out show, largely on the back of his notable performances at the notorious Late ‘n’ Live show.

A large proportion of Stephen’s work in TV and radio. He was the main comedy writer for Radio 1’s daytime programming from 1999 to 2003 and has written for everyone there from Zoe Ball to John Peel.
