LOOKING GOOD
Stemming the advancing years
Some of you may have perhaps heard about stem cell therapy (SCT).

Used to treat diseases and certain debilitating conditions, the therapy might provide hope to those who need a new heart, a new lung, a new kidney and other organs and body parts.

One organ – the largest in the body – that SCT can be used to help rejuvenate is the skin.

The goal of healthy ageing is the motivation behind the work of researchers, scientists and physicians the world over.

They want to change the way we live, regenerate and age.

Skin cells are like people.

They start fresh and full of energy. As time passes, every cell loses strength and becomes more independent as its surrounding tissue deteriorates and simply runs slower and rougher.

The result is progressive ageing over the entire body.

Just as with humans, cells need other cells for information, support, nourishment and direction. For skin to work the way it does, every cell must work in perfect unison with its surrounding tissue.

A fundamental discovery indicates that a young cell being exposed to an old cell leads to the reprogramming of the old cells. This is because of a cell’s power to share genetic information via DNA.

New, energetic and vital cells are extracted from different sources, either human or bovine.

Once the cells have been extracted, the embryonic serum and tissue is carefully analysed, filtered, separated, identified and combined.

In a separation process, every required constituent of skin – collagen, hyaluronic acid, elastin, DNA, RNA, fibroblasts, lipids and stem cells – are selected. The serum is then flash frozen.

Some manufacturers might add some other nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, essential fatty acids, amino acids, antioxidants and growth factors to boost the benefit of SCT. Allergic reaction to SCT depends upon what other constituents have been added.

Stem cell serum can be injected into your skin or it can be applied topically onto the skin. Treatment should be done in multiple sessions, one-to-two weeks apart.

You can feel some improvement after six days and more improvement after six-to-ten sessions. Studies have shown that it can improve lines, wrinkles and skin laxity. The condition of skin dryness resulting from allergy or chemotherapy is also improved.

Photo-damaged skin, too, benefits from SCT. You can get that young looking skin back again.

However, it is best to discuss this with your doctor first to determine if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure.

The route of administration also calls for due discussion and consideration.

There is a wealth of different products from different labs and these work in different ways, you need to find one that is suitable for you.
