A Guiness a day
A Guiness a day

I read an article recently about patients in an ?old folks? home? being given a small glass of Guinness Stout every day.

Being a regular fan of a pint of Guinness, especially when watching ?footy? (not the girl?s game, I?m talking about rugby) and being a Holistic Healing Practioner, I needed some justification for taxing my liver by poisoning it with alcohol.

Research Scientists found that a pint a day works as well as aspirin for thinning the blood, in the prevention of blood clots.

Reduced clotting is important for patients who are at risk of a heart attack, because of hardened arteries. A heart attack is triggered when a clot lodges in one of these arteries supplying the heart.

Many patients are prescribed low-dose aspirin as this cuts the ability of the blood to form these dangerous clots.

The researchers told a meeting of the American Heart Association in Orlando, Florida, that the most benefit they saw was from 24 fluid ounces of Guinness, just over a pint, taken at mealtimes.

The researchers believe that "antioxidant compounds" in the Guinness, similar to those found in certain fruits and vegetables, are responsible for the health benefits because they slow down the deposit of harmful cholesterol on the artery.

Drinking lager doesn't yield the same benefits as a stout.

Researchers from Wisconsin University actually tested the health benefits of Guinness on dogs with narrowed arteries, similar to those found in human heart disease.
They found that the dogs given Guinness (as compared to lager) had reduced clotting in their blood.

To sum up the health benefits of a pint of Guinness:

1) High iron content

2) High vitamin B (brewer's yeast)

3) Lower calories than many other beers (just 125 per 12 oz) lower in calories than 90% of lite beers

4) Proven benefits to lowering blood clots

5) Antioxidants

So if your doctor prescribes daily low doses of aspirin, ask him if it is possible to change to a daily pint of Guinness (good luck!).

The well-known old advertising slogan "Guinness is Good for You" was actually born from customers claiming that they felt good after their pint. Who doesn?t?

Don?t just rely on a pint a day to fix your arterial problem look into Dr Linus Pauling?s ?Healthy Heart Protocol?: large doses of Vitamin C, L-Lysine and Proline for a truly holistic fix.
