The Public Health Office of Phuket has revealed that there are approximately 1300 patients currently suffering from conjunctivitis in Phuket.
Conjunctivitis, commonly known as pinkeye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear membrane that covers the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids.
Pongsawat Rattanasang, Director of Public Health on the island said “The number of reported cases of conjunctivitis started to spread in October and now there are about 1300 that have been to see a doctor. We therefore have to be prepared and ready to prevent it.”
Conjunctivitis can be spread from one person to another really easily, even by touching the same doorknob as someone affected.”
The numbers suffering from dengue fever, an infection passed through the blood and through mosquito bites has recently reached 200. Khun Pongsawat said, “We have sent reports to all schools and health stations to kill all the mosquitoes that cause the fever.”
