BRITISH youngster, Mathew Mee and fellow Olympic team mates are planning to enter the 23rd Phuket King?s Cup Regatta, held 28 November to 5 December 2009 at Kata Beach.
Despite just reaching 23 this month, Mee?s trophy cabinet is already groaning under the weight of his accomplishments. Wins include the 2004 Merlin Rocket championships and, more recently, the GP 14 National Championship, and good placings in the 2008 470 Olympic Class. Mee will be helming a 470 at the 2012 Olympics.
Mee?s experience at the 42nd Fireball World Championship in Pattaya last year will likely help him at the King?s Cup.
Considered by many to be the ?new Ben Ainslie?, Mee and two of his Olympic team mates are joining two other friends to enter the King?s Cup with the Phuket-based Tuay Lek (pictured here at Raceweek), sponsored by Coca Cola/Haad Thip Thailand.
The international team will also be using local sails made by Khun Ket.
?We believe in supporting the local marine industry and K Ket makes great sails,? commented Downard.
