Organisers of the planned record-breaking dive in Phang Nga, scheduled for this past weekend, were forced to call off the event at the last minute due to inclement weather.

Citing the need to protect the safety of all involved, and following discussions with meteorologists and rescue suthorities, the organisers felt that the recent spate of late afternoon/evening storms and heavier seas would cause too much of a risk to the returning divers.

The record is currently held by a 2,486 participant dive that took place in Indonesia.
