Seafood nowhere near the sea
Seafood nowhere near the sea

After finishing a particularly hard day, I was riding my bike back home and happened to chance upon a nice little restaurant located on a shady road (as in there was lots of shade - not in the dodgy sense) close to the hill in Samkong; the downtown of Phuket Town.

After I selected the table for my dinner, I called my close friend to come and join me for dinner at Mae Porn Seafood restaurant.

Khun Aon, the owner of the restaurant, always gives a warm welcome to his customers and he was no different to me when he came to take my order. I selected ‘Khao Kluk Kapi’ (70 baht) and ‘Tom Kha Gai’ (80 baht) and a dragon fruit blended juice drink (40 baht).

Khao Kluk Kapi is quite a big dish, so I could not finish all by myself. Luckily I had my friend with me. Kapi is a Thai word that means shrimp paste, they fry rice with Kapi and then serve it with sweet pork, sliced pineapple, chili, shallot, string bean, omelet, sour mango, and finally a squeeze of lime just before the first mouthful.

Tom Kha Gai is a coconut milk soup with chicken and a special taste of galangal (blue ginger), this dish was neither too spicy nor too sweet. This dinner is so nice. It’s easy to have fresh seafood, you do not even need to go near the beach... just in town!

Mae Porn Seafood Restaurant is open daily except the 1st and 16th of every month. It’s open from 11am to 9pm. You can reserve a table or food by calling 076-236 124.
