An Englishman, a Scotsman and a Welshman are coming to Phuket to make us laugh.
There’s no Irishman in this joke, but this month’s Punchline Comedy Club at the Holiday Inn in Patong is sure to be a real hoot.
The line-up for next Tuesday’s show includes Londoner, Greg Burns, Scotsman, Geoff Boyz, and Welshman, Lloyd Langford.
Burns is a stand up comedian and radio DJ who boasts that he talks for a living.
He repertoire includes jokes about gyms, bedroom banter and Australia’s invasion of the world, which he says has gone un-noticed.
No cows are sacred and no subject is taboo.
“Going to the gym is really expensive these days,” he says.
“I’m going to have to stop taking a taxi.”
Boom boom.
Back in the UK, Burns hosts the popular drive time show on London’s capital FM and is one of the most sought after stand up comics in the British capital.
The Sunday Times described him as ‘a lovable a comedian you’re ever likely to find. He’s confident, funny and clever’.
Greg’s meteoric rise through the ranks of the international comedy circuit have taken him to Hong Kong, Dubai, Singapore and Australia where he was invited to perform at the prestigious Sydney Comedy festival.
He has a knack of being able to find the funny side of just about every situation, and his personal observations scored him the job of warming up audiences for prime time TV shows such as Have I got news for you, Room 101, and The Catherine Tate show and opening gigs for comedians Frank Skinner and Clive Anderson.
He has also appeared in cameos on the world-wide hit show The Office.
Burns was once asked who would be the ideal guest for his radio show.
“An historical world figure or leader, such as Nelson Mandella, Winston Churchill, Sir Thomas Moore … or Dannii Minogue.”
The funnyman said the best piece of advice he’d ever been given was to ‘always clear google history’.
And he’s skeptical about accepting health advice from strangers.
“Somebody once told me I should try a shiatsu massage,” he said.
“But the thought of one of all those little dogs walking down my back put me off.”
He also has a good supply of sex jokes, which are mandatory for all stand up comedians.
“My girlfriend told me, sex with me was like going on Easyjet,” he quips.
“Hop on board no thrills.
“When I told her I always got her to her destination, she said ‘yeah, but just like Easyjet, you have to make your own final transfer arrangements’.
Greg will be joined on stage by Scottish comedian and impressionist, Jeff Boyz, and Welshman Lloyd Langford.
Boyz is one of the most versatile comedians on the comedy circuit and has been making audiences laugh all around the world, including Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore,
and Dubai.
He is one of the first international comedians to perform in China.
He is in demand on the corporate circuit and performed at Scottish Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Lloyd Langford is a prolific writer and performer whose striking wit and playful curiosity have made him one of Britain’s most popular funnymen.
He has performed in Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai, the French Alps, Munich and Singapore.
His act consists of an ever-evolving mix of personal anecdotes, memorable one-liners and topical gags.
This month’s Punchline Comedy Club performance will also be raising money for the Rotary Club of Patong, with a percentage of ticket sales going to the charity.
The Punchline Comedy Club, featuring Greg Burns, Geoff Boyz and Lloyd Langford, will be at the Holiday Inn in Patong on Tuesday, May 19.
The show begins at 8.30pm and tickets are only 960 baht per person and will be available at the door.
