For a golfer to hit a hole-in-one is no mean feat, but for two golfers to play together and both accomplish it during the same round, is almost unheard of. Irish couple Terry and Deirdre Lynskey, members of the Laguna Phuket Golf Club and villa owners of the adjoining award-winning Banyan Tree Phuket, did exactly that on Sunday 3 February 2008.
Deirdre was the first to score a hole-in-one out at the 160 yard par three 7th, a slightly downhill hole protected by water and a bunker to the right. Not to be outdone, Terry stood over his tee shot on the 135 yard par three 16th, having been reminded by Deirdre that this was his last chance to match her achievement. Seconds later Terry's well-struck sand wedge disappeared into the bottom of the cup and a unique double had been achieved. Ironically, Deirdre missed her second hole-in-one of the day by just six inches on that same hole, holed the putt and walked away with a win over Terry given her two-shot allowance. The double hole-in-one was witnessed by Ken and Patricia Jardine, former captains of Real Club De Golf Las Brisas in Marbella, Spain, who were playing with the Lynskeys that morning.
The Lynskeys are no strangers to playing golf across the globe and also hold memberships at the Real Club De Golf Las Brisas Spain and the K Club in Ireland, host to the 2006 Ryder Cup. None, however, will hold such a special meaning to them as the Laguna Phuket Golf Club now does. We were delighted and thrilled to have achieved this unique double hole-in-one at our favourite destination in the world, Phuket, they said.
