Norwegian Consulate opens
Mon 14 Dec 2009
The opening of the Honorary Consulate of Norway was held on the 26 November at the MMB building in the Rassada Munag district of Phuket.

The ceremony was attended by the Noweigian Minister of Environment, Eric Solheim and Governor Wichai Praisa-Ngob who also chaired the meeting and welcomed the Honory Consul of Royal Norweigian Consulate Phuket, Pornphan Sittichaivijit.

The Honorary Consulate covers the provinces of Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi, which is incidentally the areas that the Norwegian people tend to visit, attracted by the crystal sea and sandy beaches around this area.

Khun Sittichaivijit said, “The Consulate will do its best to assist Norwegians in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi. Our aim is to reduce consumption of time, cost of travel and coordination with The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok for the people of Norway.”

Last month saw the appointment of Dr Sompoch Nipakanont as the honorary consul of Sweden and seems to be part of a move to welcome more Scandinavians to the island.
