The Phuket office of the National Blood Center is currently appealing for extra donations to build up an emergency stock in readiness for the predicted extra accidents during the festive period.

The organisation along with Thai Red Cross has launched the catchy campaign; “Ask a friend for a blood donation before the New Year's trip.”

Pornthip Rattajak acting chief of the National Blood Center, Phuket office said, “This year's celebration period is longer than previous years, (29 December – 4 January 4) so lots more people will be travelling, so the risk of accidents is much higher.”

She added, “We are hosting this project to stock blood for each hospital, from analysing previous findings we now know that most hospitals need at least 30% more blood per year.

If people donate during the campaign period of 15-31 December, they will receive a blood red ball as a souvenir.
