IT is no secret that this low season has been challenging for everyone that lives and works on Phuket. There are those, however, that just shrug their shoulders, strap on their guitars and go right back out there and rock. Colin Hill is one of those people.
Guitarist Colin ?Illy? Hill has completed over 9500 performances worldwide in all sorts of bands. He has also supported many well known international artists worldwide.
Colin is a polite and charming man who is very easy to work with and great with the crowds.
You can catch Colin and his band, featuring special guest vocalist Karen, on Monday nights at Angus O?Tool?s Blues & Soul night starting at 9:30 pm. If you like a good beer to put you in the mood to rock, then O? Tools offers draught Guinness, Kilkenny, Heineken, Bulmers/Magners, Blackthorn, Gaymers, Natch, Olde English, Newcastle Brown, Beer Lao, Leo, San Miguel, Stella Artois and lots more.
Stop in at Arfur O?Tool?s on a Tuesday night to catch Colin?s acoustic rock show from 9.30 pm onwards which also features Goff, on drums and vocals. The first part of the night is an intimate unplugged set with Colin and then later Goff joins him to finish of the evening.
Goff is a local music shop owner and musician who not only plays the drums he also teaches the noble art and can find you an affordable set of bangers from his very own store in Phuket Town.
This Tuesday at Arfur O?Tool?s, Goff will put ?Whiskey in the Jar? and make you feel like you?re in the land of leprechauns.
Also don?t miss Wednesday nights at Angus O?Tool?s Classic Rock, Live & Loud.
This, again, starts at 9.30 pm. This is the night that true head bangers can indulge themselves in classic rock.
There are no other bars where, on a Wednesday night, you can really ?Get Your Motor Running? and hit ?The Highway to Hell?.
Friday nights should be spent at the Karma Lounge in Karon where you can either watch, or take part in an all star jam with other luminaries, such as long time Tai Pan favorite Harry K, Bonny Anderson our very own diva from the U.S.A Khun Lek, a very versatile saxophonist from Japan, the effervescent Ricky Zen from Las Vegas and Tony Kelsey-Stead from the UK, just to name a few.
This really is a great night at the Karma Lounge. Owners Reinhardt and his wife, Lek, try hard to make you feel like a VIP and encourage you to make yourself at home. The Karma Lounge occasionally features other forms of entertainment, such as magic shows, fire eaters and and acrobats.
