This issue’s pick of the crop is an apartment set within a development of just nine properties, situated on a hillside overlooking the whole of Patong. Jane, the owner, has created a very special environment that provides a very high standard of accommodation and service.

Jane’s challenge to the German architect was to create a modern clean line design that allows each apartment to have stunning sea views, along with lots of space and privacy. The architect achieved this by using the natural topography of the land and stepping each apartment side by side, thus creating a labyrinth of very cool and visually stunning buildings.

The main entrance is through the high security gate, which opens after the security guard has diligently checked ID. The ground level area consists of a large car park and management office. The larger units are contained in the upper part of the development, with the slightly smaller ones located down a few steps.

The apartment is spread out over three levels, with the entrance, study and master bedroom on the top floor, kitchen, living room and guest toilet on the middle floor and two further bedrooms on the lower floors. My first impressions are that there is a lot of space, glass and high ceilings. The interior design is minimalist; no clutter, just enough furniture, and tastefully selected artworks and furnishings.

The master bedroom is stunning. Set at the highest corner point of the building, it allows amazing panoramic views across the whole bay of Patong. Beautifully engineered flooring gives it a soft feel, and contrasts well with the white walls. A black oak four-poster bed dominates the room, with high quality curtains, throws and TV cabinet to complete the look. The en-suite bathroom has been simply finished in white tiles, with green mosaics in the shower area. It features twin vanity sinks, toilet, bath, shower and lots of storage cabinets.

Outside is the study area, with hi-speed wireless internet connection. It’s open and airy and allows you to work from home in complete comfort. It overlooks the living area and has a real lofty feel about it.

Down in the living area are huge glass panels that bring in light and provides spectacular ocean views. The living room has a large sofa, coffee table, TV and CD. Opposite is the dining area, with black oak dining table and chairs. The kitchen is finished in grey and white high gloss, with well-appointed European appliances.

Outside, the large terrace is completely decked, highlighted with a long infinity swimming pool. This whole area is a perfect place to relax and entertain. Downstairs are two additional bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms, plus additional storage areas. Built in air-con is fitted throughout the apartment, along with modern halogen lights.

All of the apartments are for rent, and are sized from 2-4 bedrooms, with short or long term options available. Prices start from as little as US$200 per night, making it a really affordable holiday investment.
