The Phuket golf community has been neglected by the media in the past, but that is about to change. We at The Post aim to shake the socks of all golf players and interested golfers with monthly golf coverage by Deon Nell - a WGTF Teaching Professional.

?Paradise? comes close as an accurate description for the Blue Canyon Country Club; the focus of our course report
in this issue. There are two world class courses at BCC; The championship standard Canyon Course and the very enjoyable and scenic stunning Lakes course.

The Lakes course is under review and I must say it was a very enjoyable experience playing the Lakes. Although
Buggies are permitted I chose to walk (what does Churchill know?) a nice walk it was.

The course has subtle undulations and a variety of birdlife. The fairways were in great condition and I must say the greens were a bit disappointing due to their inconsistency in speed You would find that one green is about 5 on the stimpmeter and the next is 8 which is a bit frustrating judging the pace of a putt.

I would say the speed indication off 8 at the Pro shop is only a vivid guess! The outing however was a great experience and I must say playing with a member makes it almost affordable at 1800 baht! Fun, exciting and safe.

Pro Tip:

One distinctive difference between the Pros and the average amateur is the pre-shot routine, or the lack thereof in the case of amateurs.

The Pros use a good pre-shot routine to firstly line themselves up to the target, set their posture and focus on the shot.

There is no better way to focus for a shot than to make use of a proper pre-shot routine. In the next few issues I will attempt to create a proper routine for you.

Step one: of any pre-shot routine is to determine a line between the target and the ball. It is done by standing behind the ball facing the target and visualising the ball flight towards the target. This is called ?The ball to target line? and is the cornerstone of any great swing.

Step two: Place the club face behind the ball square to the target line.

Step three: Align your body parallel to the target line (Right-handed player`s feet
should be parallel left of the target and left-handed player`s feet should be parallel right of the target).

Visualise a train track with the target line the one rail and your feet the other rail.
