So you?ve seen the pros do it and you?re pretty sure you haven?t seen them do anything that you can?t yourself do in the bedroom? while asleep? dreaming of playing football.
Sure they may be a little slimmer, a tad more skillful and with a better haircut, but the difference between you and Rooney, Ronaldo and Drogba is barely non existent? in the bedroom? while asleep? dreaming of playing football.
You all have two legs, two arms, one head and a burning desire to play football. So why not dust off those old football boots, stretch that T-Shirt over your belly and head out into the Phuket sunshine for a good ol? game of footy?
Unfortunately however, you may find that harder than you think. Alain Brulfert, a tournament organiser of the Phuket International Soccer 7s and the Andaman International Soccer 7s (November) and Phuket Spicy Soccer 7s (February) said, ?For each tournament, every year, we have huge problems in securing a suitable and safe pitch in Phuket. We regularly inspect the 20 playing venues in Phuket, but most are unsuitable for an international tournament.?
This, according to Alain, is because most pitches are in such disrepair, under construction or requesting a rental fee five to ten times higher than the average price in Bangkok or Singapore.
Brief glimmers of hope shone last year from the stadiums of the FIFA Tsunami Phuket Football Centre (FTPFC) and Karon stadium. Unfortunately however the light soon dimmed as the FTPFC became the sole host to Phuket FC. The Karon stadium, meanwhile, has now deteriorated quite considerably meaning that up until a few months ago, the state of Phuket amateur football looked dire indeed.
That was until, the Phuket International Academy came to save the day. Every Thursday night at 6pm, regular futsal (five a side) matches are played on a FIFA approved Limonta 50x30 metre Astroturf Pitch.
There are seven teams competing in the AFC football league, with last season?s winners, Phuket Wanderers once again leading the pack this season.
The current league started in May and therefore the newbies with new boots and even newer illusions of grandeur will have to wait until August until the next season starts. If you have your own team or wish to try out for the existing teams, you could always pop along and try to impress at the PIA?s Monday evening training sessions that start at 5.45 till 7pm.
If you?re a child living in Phuket, then the last thing you probably want to hear this summer is the word ?school?? but wait? You young ?uns have the unique possibility of not only watching the fantastic Brazil football team dazzle at the World cup but also attend a Brazilian Soccer School football camp.
The two five-day camps will commence on 5 July and 12 July respectively.
