PHUKET Community Foundation has announced that their inaugural Phuket rubber duck race will be taking place on 7 November at the Canal Village, Laguna.

The PCF is hosting the event to raise funds and to also raise awareness of the PCF and its activities.

Rubber duck racing is a common and highly successful form of fund raising in many countries with some events involving as many as 100,000 rubber ducks.

Board member Alasdair Forbes said, “We expect to sell all of the 1,000 rubber ducks and the majority of the funds will be used to award grants to the successful applicants.”

The ducks will be available to buy locally at 150 baht at various places on Phuket, details of which can be found on the website www.phuketcharity.org/duck.

The PCF is also hoping to target the thousands of Phuket natives who are living oversees or people who have holiday homes, but may not be here in November. Ducks can be bought for US $5 each.

The race day will be from 2pm to 7pm, and will also include many other competitions, such as kayak races, raft races, a cardboard box race for kids, and dragon boats and Muay Talay (boxing in the sea). The winners of each category will get one of the many amazing prizes that includes four nights at a spa, or a day at a golf range, a four night stay at Banyan Tree at a value of 130,000 baht, three nights at Amanpuri Villa at a value of 115,000 baht, an Apple Macbook worth 50,000 baht, a painting from John Underwood valued at 100,000 baht, and many more.

Extra activities for children include; bouncy castles, face painting, and balloon twisting. Both western and Thai style food will be served by Laguna Phuket
at ‘extraordinarily’ reasonable prices. The party will continue at Laguna once the PCF has waddled home at 7pm.
